The new KPI website uses our Microsoft Sharepoint Intranet Site. Since Internet Explorer, Sharepoint, and Microsoft Office are all Microsoft applications they work best when used together
Other Web Browsers such as Firefox or Google Chrome may also be used, but your experience and setup will vary from the screenshots shown.
Navigate to http://labs.us.cksnnet.com/KPI/default.aspx using the Internet Explorer Web Browser.
Login when prompted using your Windows Username and Password. This is the same username and password that you use when you turn on your computer.
If you enter the password incorrectly 3 times, the system will lock you out and you will need to contact an IT representative to unlock your account.
KPI Site Home Page
Successful Login will bring you to the KPI Site Homepage. For this tutorial we will be updating the Alpha Altoona KPI file as an example.
- Click on the relevant Business Unit Folder to see the KPI files for the individual sites.
Business Unit Sub Folders
Inside each business unit folder you will find an Archive and Current Year KPI Folder.
Click "Current Year KPI" to update and view current year files
The "Archived KPI" folder has all of the 2015 data and is set to "Read Only"
List of KPI Spreadsheets inside the main folder.
Click the excel file on the left hand side for the site you intend to update.
Open as Read Only or Edit Mode
Sharepoint uses a feature called "Check Out" that only allows 1 person to edit a document. You may check out a file for editing, and that file will remain checked out to you until you save you changes and close the file.
- Click Edit to make changes to the file. You may also select Read only to view the files contents without making changes.
Click OK
After Clicking Edit, Click OK.
Microsoft Office 2013 Security Prompts: Protected View
There are several new security features in Modern Versions of Microsoft Office that reveal themselves when you open a file that has been downloaded from the internet.
Click "Enable Editing" when the "Protected View" information bar appears at the top of the Excel Window.
Microsoft Office 2013 Security Prompts: Enable Content
The second information bar that appears will prompt you to "Enable Content" in the file. This will allow the summary formulas and macros within the spreadsheet to run.
Microsoft Office 2013 Security Prompts: Security Warning
The last security message will ask you if you want to trust the file in the future.
Click Yes.
Uploading to Sharepoint
After you click save you should see "UPLOADING TO SHAREPOINT" at the bottom of the excel window.
You can close the excel file when this process is completed.
List of KPI Spreadsheets
Once the file has been uploaded Sharepoint will put a timestamp next to the file to indicate its last modification date.
You will also see your username in the Modified By Column.
Global KPI File
When opening the Global KPI file you will need to repeat the security steps from above.
Updating the Global File
Excel May Appear to stop responding once the Global File has been opened. Do not attempt to close Excel.
The Global file has dozens of formulas that attach to each of the local sheets to retrieve up to date information - it may take a few minutes to complete this work. When completed you will be able to browse the file like normal.
Set Internet Explorer to remember your password.
When you log into sharepoint for the first time, remember to select "Remember my credentials" checkbox.
